Invertebrate Zoology

Acronym TTU-Z

The current acronym (and prefix to our catalogue numbers) for the Invertebrate Zoology collection is TTU-Z; standing for Texas Tech University-Invertebrate Zoology. Portions of the current collection have been housed in different Schools of the university over the decades and therefore may appear in publications under different acronyms. The most commonly encountered is TTCC (same as listed in Arnett, R. H. Jr., et al., 1986. The insect and spider collections of the world. E. J. Brill, 220 pp.; [Evenhuis, N. L. and G. A. Samuelson, 2005. The insect and spider collections of the world web site: http://hbs.bishopmuseum.org/codens/codens-inst.html] ). TTCC originated when our institution was named the Texas Technological College Collection. Likewise, use of TTUL [Texas Tech University Lubbock] and TTU are incorrect because they are not specific as to which collection they refer. There are over 20 different collections in our museum policy manual and each has a different letter following TTU-. Elsewhere on campus there are other collections which also have their own cataloging systems.
