Dr. Mikhail Bondarkov, Director

International Radioecology Laboratory

Dr. Bondarkov is a physicist by training and has been very active in the design and implementation of research programs in the Chornobyl region since being named director of the IRL in 1998. Mikhail is responsible for organizing all scientific expeditions conducted through the IRL. His expertise in physics has contributed to the development of cost-efficient methods of strontium-90 analysis in physical samples and in living organisms. Such innovative technological advances have enabled Texas Tech scientists to assess the rate of accumulation and loss of strontium-90 in animals from Chornobyl.
