Anyway, after the data have been recorded on paper, the inspector goes to the computer and enters the information into the database.  The way this program works is that you click on the floor plan at the location where a pest was observed to create a new record and automatically record the coordinates for the location.  The grid size used is three feet by three feet.  I’ll explain more about this later.  After the new record has been created, the user simply chooses the type of pest observed, its life stage (adult, larva, pupa, egg, or casing), whether the pest was living or dead and the number of individuals observed at that particular 3' x 3' location.  The age field defaults to adult and status defaults to dead.  When the pest’s name is selected, the risk factor is automatically entered.  For example, a Dermestid is always considered to be a high risk factor.
